Summer

Porch swings, popsicles, bare feet, lightning bugs, the warm smell of rain, strawberries, sprinklers, long days, backyard BBQs, flip flops, fireworks, picnics, stargazing, sunshine, bike rides, night swimming, corn on the cob, first kisses, thunderstorms, watermelon, outdoor concerts, hammocks, drive-in movies, flash light tag, road trips and festivals.
Well hello there summer. So good to see you again.

(What are your favorite things about summer?)

They're Comin' to America...TODAY! (Sing it like Neil Diamond)

I LOVE the 4th of July. It is my favorite holiday and here's why:

    1. I love America.
    2. There is really no pressure to do anything. (No baking, no decorating, no buying presents.)
    3. It is in the summer.
And last but certainly not least...
    4. Fireworks.

    Happy Independence Day!Source URL: http://science-logic.blogspot.com/search/label/Favorites

Marimekko

About a year ago I saw a little girl wearing the cutest backpack. I made a mental note of the tag on the bag which read, Marimekko. I googled the name only to discover that Marimekko is a renown textile design company based in Finland. The company was established in 1951 so I'm sure this is not a new discovery to most. However, I do live under a sizable rock (in the Midwest, no less) so I'm not usually the first to hear about cool stuff. But, in case you live under an even bigger rock than I do and are just now hearing about Marimekko for the first time, you can see more stuff here and here.Source URL: http://science-logic.blogspot.com/search/label/Favorites

The Office

Paper Thread

Last night when I was entertaining my kids at the mall (they have a play area), I discovered a new store, Paper Thread. Since I pretty much live under a rock, this store is probably common knowledge to most people but nonetheless, it is new to me. When I first saw it, I thought it was a Paper Source and I had died and gone to heaven. (I don't think there are Paper Source stores in Ohio. Sad.) However, upon entering I decided this store is equally as rad. It's like a mix between Paper Source and Anthropologie and I love it, love it, love it! The name, says it all: Paper Thread. Two things I'm very passionate about. I had both my kids with me so my time was VERY limited (Mitch isn't a real trooper when it comes to shopping) but this is what I could gather in the few minutes I spent in the store. It is an eclectic mix of fun paper goods (stationary, wrapping paper, custom invitations, envelopes) with a few fabric-type items (ribbon by the yard, totes, funky throw pillows and quilts.) BUT, my favorite part of the store? They have a real photo booth! I've seen the lame digital ones but this was a real, bona fide photo booth that prints out four black and white photos on a little film strip! (Jared and I's next date night is for sure going to include blowing some money in that booth.) Anyway, most of the items I checked out seemed a little pricey so I'll most likely never buy anything there, but it will definately be on my list of fun places to window shop. I'm a little bummed because I am unable to find a Paper Thread web-site. Has anyone else heard of this store? Do you think it's rad too?Source URL: http://science-logic.blogspot.com/search/label/Favorites

Free Spirit

Check out the bike I just got from the Thrift Store. A three-speed "Free Spirit" with a bike license that expired in 1985. The price tag: $17.99. Jared talked them down to $9.99, of course. Considering it's age, it's in great shape. What a deal! I bought an old beat up one-speed at a garage sale for $5 last year but I ended up selling it for $20 a few weeks later. (You know, me and the whole I-can't-pass-up-a-chance-to-make-a-quick-profit bit.) But now I have a replacement! You can bet I'm going to be taking this bad boy off some pretty sweet jumps this summer. :)

Cruiser Bike

Isn't this a dreamy scene? A cruiser bike with a basket, parked at the beach. I think the only thing that would make this scene better is if the basket were full of fresh flowers and/or produce. Man, I want a bike like this. If anyone sees something similar at a garage sale or bike shop, notify me immediately. Or if you want you can just buy it for me, that's fine too.Source URL: http://science-logic.blogspot.com/search/label/Favorites

Mellow Yellow

It makes an appearance with navy blue (which I love) almost every spring so it is definately nothing new and it usually doesn't do much for me. Maybe it's all these gray winter days but anything yellow has been looking really good to me lately. (Clothes, sheets, shoes, paint, curtains, accessories, etc.) Unfortunately, I'm not sure I can wear yellow successfully. If you are a person who can- you should totally buy this stuff. (Find a few of my favorites here, here and here.)

Esty-Love

Is anyone else overwhelmed by Etsy? I just discovered this great site:Esty-Love. They post cool stuff they find on Etsy so you don't have to look for it. Here are a couple fun finds I thought I'd pass along:

I really like the ruffly collar on this shirt and I don't think it would be too hard to re-create. I think it's about time for me to learn to sew clothing. Shirt by Rose La Biche.

I also like this pretty porcelain jewelry by Sofia Masri.

Fun Envelopes

Ode to Aldi

I'd just like to give a shout out to my grocery store of choice: Aldi. (Pronounced "ALL-DEE") My sister introduced me to the store several years ago and I've been a big fan ever since. If you are not familiar with Aldi, I suggest you find one near you and start shopping there immediately. If for nothing else, at least go there for the basics...sugar, flour, canned goods, etc. The prices can't be beat! If you already shop at there, you get a high five from me. There is a special place in my heart for Aldi shoppers. It's not that I dislike you if you don't shop there, but I would probably like you better if you did.
Here's what I love about Aldi (in no particular order):

    1. Incredible value everyday. Really. Where else can you find laundry detergent for $1.99?
    2. A quarter really saves you $$$! Here's how it works. You pay a quarter for a cart but when your shopping is finished you get the quarter back. It is shear genius! You save money because Aldi doesn't pay an employee to go round up the carts in the parking lot and they don't loose expensive grocery carts. An additional perk...no shopping carts taking up valueable parking spots and no dings in your car door. (I said no particular order, but I think this is probably my favorite thing.)
    3. The double guarantee. If you are not completely satisfied with any product, they will replace the product AND issue a full refund.
    4. The store set up. It is small and un-intimidating. Going in to grab a few quick items is a piece of cake.
    5. The French Silk Pie. It rocks.

I could go on, but I think the company website can explain it all better. Click here to learn more about "shopping smarter" at Aldi. And if you have something positive to say about Aldi, please leave a comment. (Unfortunately negative comments about Aldi are not permitted on this blog.)Source URL: http://science-logic.blogspot.com/search/label/Favorites

Fun Sheets

I have been eyeing these fun lime polka dot sheets at Target for quite some time and now they are on sale for 50% off! Unfortunately they don't sell them in the size I need for my bed but that didn't stop me from buying a set. They were too cute and cheap to pass up! I might give them as a gift or I may just use the fabric for some other projects like a quilt, a slipcover or even an apron. In the meantime, I'm actually just enjoying them sitting on my counter all wrapped up and happy looking. (What is it about polka dots?)

(I should mention these are only on sale in the store, not on-line, if you are interested.)Source URL: http://science-logic.blogspot.com/search/label/Favorites

Globe Collection

A Note on Fabric Flowers

I love fabric flowers. I think they add a bit of girly spunk to any ordinary outfit. I like them so much that I even had one on my wedding dress. I think I would like to have flowers of all sorts so I could wear one all the time. Click here to make your own fabric flower like the one pictured above. (I just made mine with fabric scraps and a white button.) If you want something even easier, just buy a silk flower at any craft store and hot glue a pin onto the back. Wa-lah!
I also like the flowers seen here and here. (I think I'll make a flower belt like this.)
