Bollywood beauty queen Priyanka Chopra is born on 18th July, 1982 in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand.
Her father was Capt. Dr. Ashok Chopra, mother Dr. Madhu Chopra. Her father hailed from a family of Punjabi origin, settled in Bareilly and her mother comes from a family settled in Jamshedpur. She also has a brother, Siddharth, who is seven years younger than she. Her family affectionately called her Mimi.
Chopra spent her childhood in Rae Barreilly, Uttar Pradesh as well as in Lucknow, where she was enrolled in the La Martiniere Girls' School. These frequent re-locations took place as Ashok was a doctor in the Indian Army. She subsequently re-located to the U.S. where she studied in Newton's Newton North High School and then in Cedar Rapid's John F. Kennedy High School in Massachusetts and Iowa respectively.
In 2000 she returned to India and enrolled in Jai Hind College and Basant Singh Institute of Science in Churchgate, Mambai but had to leave abruptly as she was crowned Miss India.
Priyanka Chopra came in second place at Femina Miss India 2000 competition winning the Femina Miss India World title and subsequently being sent to Miss World where she was crowned Miss World 2000.
Priyanka is a good singer and occasionally writes poetry and short stories. priyanka didn’t had much aspiration for modeling or ever dreamed of competing in beauty contests, but her parents, without Priyanka’s knowledge, sent photos of her to the Femina Miss India pageant. On competing, Priyanka won the Femina Miss India-World title and an opportunity to represent her country for the Miss World competition.
On December 12, 2009, Chopra was present as a judge for the Miss World 2009 competition held in Johannesburg, South Africa.
In the Miss World competition, the judges were so impressed by Priyanka Chopra’s performance that they omitted the mistake that she made during the last round and she was adjudged winner of the Miss World 2000 title. She was asked which living woman she admires most, in the finals, and Priyanka replied “Mother Theresa”, but at that time Mother Theresa had deceased. But that was the only mistake priyanka chopra made throughout the tough competition.
Even before priyanka chopra won the competition, Priyanka Chopra was very involved in philanthropic activities. She is the only Indian in the USA to have been selected at the state level for the National Opus Honor Choir She did extensive charity work in US and India after winning the title.
After winning the title priyanka chopra was flooded with film offers. Priyanka Chopra made her debut in the 2002 tamil film Thamizhan playing the role of Priya, the love interest of the protaginist in the film played by Vijay. The film was praised for its wit, although the depth of Chopra's character was seen as lacking.
Then she appeared in her first Bollywood film, opposite Sunny Deol and Preity Zinta in the Anil Sharma film 'The Hero' in 2002. She works as a playback singer in 'Barsaat (2005)'.
5 feet 8 inches tall, Priyanka Chopra has won 11 awards to date for her performance in 'Andaaz', 'Aitraaz', 'The Hero', 'Mujhse Shaadi Karogi', 'Krrish' and 'Fashion'.
Priyanka is yet to prove herself as an actress of substance but she is doing well for herself as a glamour doll with a sexy pout.
